With 2 trips overseas and a very dry financial season, we have been stretched to be super creative for Christmas. From a cardboard tree to homemade gifts, it has proven to be one of the more fun and innovative Haythorpe Christmases yet!

December Update
We've been back from Africa for just over a week. It has been one of the most challenging weeks yet as we have juggled jetlag, merging back together as a DTS and jumping into school, family and holidays... I can honestly say we have never felt so stretched (emotionally, physically and spiritually). Through it all, we are learning to abide in Him and let God give us the strength and wisdom we need from day to day. Please keep us in your prayers as we send the team down to Mexico, they will be working with the YWAM base serving the local ministries as they are needed. We had originally planned to have half the team stay here in San Jose, however, due to unforeseen circumstances...

SOUTH AFRICA SO FAR
I (Angela) have arrived with the DTS Outreach Team safe and sound in South Africa. We are already jumping in, meeting key people and "trying" to learn Xhosa. Clearly, I will not be one of the 7.5 million people who speak this language. Any language using your voice and clicking your tongue simultaneously in near impossible for me. However, a couple of the girls on the team are doing really well with it and I'm a little jealous...

Taking my incredible family on outreach.

This is a moment in time I have been dreaming about.
A few weeks ago I taught the 4th/5th grade class at my church. Yes, I get to teach on Sunday :) So much fun. A lot scarier than being up on stage in front of adults!!
Anyways, that is not important. As I cleaned up the room and prepared for the next influx of children I heard something. And as I walked down the hallway, I saw this.
I teared up. To see this beautiful little girl, my little girl, singing her heart out to Jesus, after all she has been through lately, absolutely broke me. Coming off a difficult and confusing year which included some pretty heartbreaking bullying and generally negotiating life with a pretty crazy family Joy is beginning to identify Jesus as a personal and real help makes my heart so full.
This is what we get to take to South Africa. We don't just travel for the sake of it. Our family is all in. We are learning how to apply our faith in the lives we live. Whether at home or abroad.
If you are in the midst of raising a family to love Jesus, what gifts can you begin to encourage in them?
Luke

"Let go my soul & trust in Him"
No doubt that as the end of year approaches, we can all get into BUSY MODE. Its that reminder that time (in 2014) is running out, so things need to get completed. AHHH! ... ... However, recently, my question to myself has been... IS THIS HELPFUL?Lately, I've been listening to the 'You make me Brave' album by Bethel Music and one song in particular has turned into a huge expression of my hearts cry...

Belief

37 Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. John 12:37

Hi
My prayer for today is for you to draw close to Jesus. No matter the pressure, stress, difficulty or any situation you face today, know that He is near to those who humble themselves and cry out for Him.
I woke up today feeling immense stress. As I stopped to pinpoint where it was coming from, I realized....

His Amazing Provision! May 2014 Update

HE PROVIDES!
_______________________________
I
pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you
may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious
inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name
that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to
come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Ephesians 1:18-23
_______________________________
Hi
Have you seen His incomparably great power for you in this season?
Its way too easy for us to focus on the things we lack but with just a slight shift in perspective, God's goodness is jumping out at us to see and take hold of. Just the mere fact that the SAME power that raised Christ from the dead is offered to us on a momentary basis is AMAZING in itself!
I've been super tired lately... and by tired, I mean TIIIIIIIIIRRRREEEDDD! Long work days, homework, early morning baths (GOSH! kids in general) and trying to connect with my husband. With no REAL break I've been in a tough spot. My prayer had been for "REST". A reasonable request but in our circumstances, unlikely. Finally, out of desperation, I started asking God for other things and the ...

Keeping our eyes on things above.
HiThere has been so much going on since our previous update. Our work in the neighborhood has been blossoming and we have new friends and partners join our work with Youth Street.
Youth Street: Spring Break This past week was spring break! With no school for our neighborhood youth, we were able to hold 3 Youth Street events in one week! From water fights to an epic scavenger hunt, it was a groundbreaking week as we got to go so much deeper into the lives of these crew and their families. We have been blessed to...

I hope you are doing well and are enjoying this season leading up to Easter… not long now.
It has been a little while since our last update so I thought I would send through a quick rundown of whats been happening.
AUSTRALIA
I (Luke) was recently invited to be a guest speaker on a Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Australia. For those of you that are not familiar with what a DTS is, it is a 5-6 month course with the purpose of encouraging students to get to know God more and draw closer to Him whilst training you to share the love of Jesus.
The subject I spoke on was “Making Jesus Lord”. It is such a....
