Its 1am and there is a pimp yelling at a prostitute outside our bedroom window. He’s carrying a boom box and she’s dancing while he’s yelling.

From the moment we landed in Kona, Hawaii a strange sense of peace overtook me as we walked off the plane and into the cozy airport. We were picked up by one of our oldest and dearest friends and as he placed the lei over our heads and kissed us on the cheek an overwhelming emotion took over as I felt a familiarity… We were with family.

So, taking it back to February or March, our good friend Andrew called to say he was coming through SFO Airport and had a layover for a couple of hours. It had been over 3 years since we had seen him and Luke jumped at the chance to have a coffee with him, even for a short time. They had worked together in Australia for almost 8 years and have a long history together… so it was a wonderful opportunity to catch up.

Over the past few months we have been planning to go to Hawaii for some much needed time away. We have been looking forward to it, getting ready and we have also been blessed with people giving towards us going... But, as we wait, 2 days out before we are due to go, we find ourselves unable to pull the trigger to buy the tickets... All this has brought out an ugly side in me. The side that wants to retreat into a corner, put my head in the sand and wish it would all work out. The side of me that is revealed to be faithless and cowardly, the side that when pressure is applied, tries to worm its way out of responsibility and place blame and sink into self-pity.

Tonight we prayed. We find ourselves in an ever familiar circumstance since moving to America. We are yet again needing money. It is May 31st. Rent is due tomorrow. How many times Lord do we have to be here?? How many?!
After seeing miracle after miracle my faith still wavers. I am only human. Did I hear you Lord? What are we here for? It's just really too hard...

Today is my Levi's 4th birthday. I celebrate his birthday a little extra because I very distinctly remember his birth with such clarity. The other three were pretty easy and I have moments captured in my mind but Levi's was such an intense labor/delivery that I remember almost EVERY detail. The thing that sticks out most to me is that the pain was so intense that in the middle of labor/transition I literally felt like falling to the ground to kick and scream and have a tantrum (Luke argues I actually did, but I have no recollection of that). I'm usually a pretty easy going gal who tends to roll with the punches but that particular day I had been on a very crazy roller coaster of emotion, as you would in the birth process. Needless to say, it definitely made it's mark in the ol' memory bank.
The whole tantrum thing has had me thinking of how much fight I had in me then. I wasn't going down alone!! In fact, I think Luke might still have a little mark from where I bit his shoulder when he was trying to hold me still at one point in that day. I mean, HEY!, he's the one guilty of putting me in that room... right? ;)
So, as of late, I have had very little fight in me. I am EXHAUSTED!! I don't think I could muster up the energy to throw a tantrum if I wanted... I don't know where it comes from and I surely don't know how to fix it. I'm just tired. This is NOT a good place to be in with four young children needing lots of attention and a newly formed ministry needing just as much attention. It can easily pave a way to disappointment and depression, I suppose. But "strangely", I continuously find encouragement through my fatigue.

So much truth…
Whether you have known my children for five minutes or five years, you would have no question of their love for The Chronicles of Narnia stories.
