To make sure that Santa could set up easy, we had the girls spend the night with MeMa (Luke's mom) and Auntie Sal. They had a fun-filled Christmas Eve making cookies, watching Elf and a slumber party.

Apparently, the girls woke up at 4:30am due to excitement. Mommy and Daddy obviously didn't BUT was awaken by a a rubber ball bouncing off the bedroom window. It was 6:15am and MeMa and Auntie Sal were done stalling. So we opened the door and let them in. We went in to wake up the boys and brought them into the living room where Santa left lots of goodies.

The present opening frenzy had begun and poor Xavier was a little confused. But once he got it... it was all over.

One of the highlights was Levi getting a little Car Garage. He kept saying, "WOW!"... so cute!

We had Christmas Breakky together had a nap and headed off to the base for our "Reef to Outback Christmas". We had a few close friends over that evening for present opening and a bit of a restful night... it was a good Christmas!

Robyn, Adriel and Ryan praying for my as I head into 30.

Well, as I exit my twenties and enter the new decade of my life I look back and reflect on the many things I have done the last 10 years.

20 - Finished my last year as a teacher and readied myself for a life-changing trip to "find myself"
21 - I came to Australia as a student and stepped into the call of my life, not to mention met my wonderful husband, and lead an Outreach team to the Sydney Olympics.
22 - Was married and settled in Australia. Worked as Director's Assistant.
23 - Helped in establishing more the Darwin Center.
24 - Embarked on the insane journey of parenthood when I had my beautiful daughter Joy.
26 - Had my next beautiful daughter Kindi, moved house, and overcame postpartum depression.
27 - Helped Pioneer the Music Ministry and Youth Street Live.
28 - Planned the band's tour to North America, had little Levi, wend on a 10 week tour across the USA and Canada.
29 - Moved house, Completed the puzzle of the Haythorpe Family with little Xavier.

So, I feel like I've had a full life the last 10 years... Very Full! So I'm expectant for the next 10.

I'm going to the USA to meet with friends and support raise BUT one of the highlights is that I get to spend my 30th birthday with the people who were there at the very beginning. I will be in California with my parents and my twin brother Anthony. :)

I plan to travel to the Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver and Raliegh. So let me know if you are in those areas and can meet up with me. We can celebrate my 30 years together!

USA here I come!

The verdict on the house.

 Hey there,

Now some time has passed and most people have been asking about where we are up to with the house and we have had no answers until today.

First I will give you a quick update of the family... So, lots of things have been happening... On Monday I start back at work for 2 full days in the office which will be a HUGE change from just working from home... I will get non-distracted time to concentrate on work a bit more. Luke will be home with the kids for those days so it will be shared work and shared home. The kids are so excited to have “daddy time” for a few days a week. Also, we went to meet Joy’s teacher for next year and Xavier is now crawling.

In the past few months our heart for the poor and needy has increased dramatically. You never realize what a capacity you have for loving people until you get more revelation of God’s heart. Its so amazing! We have been working to make awareness of injustice issues in Australia, South East Asia and the Pacific Islands. From poverty to sex trafficking, we have had a massive desire to make a difference and see injustice stopped. So our work has mostly been focused on that. (More details can be found soon on our web page)

So that’s what we’ve been up to. Now for the house...

Well, about an hour ago we received a letter in our mail box. It was from a lawyer saying that we have to be out of the house by 5pm on November 16th (just less than 4 weeks). We also got a visit from a government worker wanting us to pass on papers to the owner. We are waiting to hear back from our property manager as he talks to the owner but it is most likely true given all the signs. In any case, the process will have to be that we will move out. If we feel its right to go after the house... We will then have to try and get it while on Auction. If by some miracle

September 2008 Update: Evicted??

Well, the eviction date has now come and gone. We were told that if we get a knock at the door we are well within our rights to tell them to leave... But alas.. No one came. THANK GOD! Each day brings a smile of relief but we are still uneasy about what is REALLY happening. So we’ll see.

Anyway, because it has been a little while, we thought we'd give a quick update with where we are at with the house and of life in general.

Kindi's First Day Preschool!

Today we sent Kindi off to Preschool... yes, my baby #2! She was literally counting down the days until her start date.

The girls even planned to wear matching shirts until they got a little excited at breakfast time and it was no longer to be. :)

Excitedly, with lunch in hand, we headed off for school.

Joy was happy to show her around school and we checked out her classroom and the day begun!

She had a fun-filled day of painting, singing and learning... Not to mention mommy had a WONDERFUL day with her boys at home. And so begins a new phase in life of school girls and growing up (tear)... how exciting!

August 2008 Update: House Update

So when I wrote the previous update and sent it out, it was literally about 2
hours after we found out the situation we're in. We prayed and then made the
decision to take the path of buying the house...

We have now been doing lots more research and we're trying to see how all
this can happen.

Ok, long story short...

This past week we’ve been getting ready to re-sign the lease for our home on Friday (today).

Thursday (yesterday) at lunch we found an EVICTION notice taped to our door from the bank saying that the home was being foreclosed on the owner and we had to be out in 3 WEEKS!!! (Sept 14)

Xavier's First Hair Cut

Well, enough was enough... the hair was OUT OF CONTROL!!!

I mean he's still pretty cute... with those greenish eyes and black hair, who can resist such a sweet little face? But the time had come. At nearly 5 months, it was time to chop it. Some days I think I would have left it, but no matter how much blue I put on the kid... people would still ask if he was a girl!

So I sat down and gave him a talk about how it was time... he cried (for a bottle), I gave him a bath, and then I cut his baby mullet right off!

I think it helps people too look at those big gorgeous eyes now instead of his hobbit hair. He's so cute!!

American trying to be Australian

Well, the Olympics are here and the hype is everywhere. I love the idea of the Olympics… however, when Luke has it on ALL the time, I become really glad that it only happens every few years! ☺

Well, I was reading up on the Olympic web site because Joy’s school is doing a “Mini-Olympics” as they learn about all the sports and the significance of the games.

I read that, “the goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practised without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

I love that Joy is learning that there are many ways to break the language barriers by sharing common interests. This helps expand her world just that much more. And as we travel, she’ll begin to understand that she can make friends no matter where she goes.

Rolling, moving and sitting up!

Well, Xavier is now 3 months (nearly 4 months) old. He is a very ambitious little boy. He wants to get in on the action. If he's not in the middle of it all... he cries. He wants to be the center of attention!

He has now started to roll over and not just a single roll but a continuous roll. You put him down and if he wants her will do 3 or 4 rolls to get to where he wants. All with a big smile on his face. She can also scoot/crawl backwards. It won't be long until he's going forward!

He's been frustrated about not being more interactive with the kids so we put him in a walker that is WAY TOO BIG for him and he loves it! The kids push him around in it so he can be in the rooms where they play. He is quickly becoming a toddler before he can even move... why do they want to grow up so fast??

He has even taken to sitting up for short periods of time. We're practicing a little here and there but to be perfectly honest I'm trying to keep him my baby as long as I can! He's my last little baby and I'm taking in every minute.

10:00 pm

I'm locking up the house to go to bed. I hear little noises coming out of the girls room. I knew Joy was exhausted because she had school that day so I thought I'd go and check on Kindi. I walk in the door and Kindi's back was facing me. I said, "Kindi, what are you doing?"

Silence. A glance from the corner of a blue eye.

I walk around to the front of Kindi. There she was in the diaper rash cream.

I caught her just before she got it all over. I've seen this before! Although frustrated, I was glad to have caught it in time. So I gave her a bath and went to bed.

___________________

7:30am

Bedroom door slams open... "Mom! Kindi and Levi make a mess!"

I race out of bed, step into the living room and I see... Levi sitting on the Kitchen table surrounded by mounds of sugar. Sugar was caked on his face and he's flapping his arms in excitement and sugar overload. Kindi was playing with her dolls very proud of herself that she got Levi breakfast.

I get Levi in the bath and start to clean up.

All of a sudden, the smoke detector starts going crazy. The batteries are dying. BUT its about a 10 foot reach to get it so after many attempts I get Luke's sister to stand on a portable kitchen island and pull it down.

Its already a long day.

___________________

9:00am

I'm pretty tired and frustrated. I announce to the kids its time to clean the house. I expect exceptional work.

Joy asks very politely if i can help her with something. As I'm helping I hear a song in the distance... "I cleaning, I cleaning, I cleaning"

"What are you cleaning?" I yell out. I follow the voice. There stands Kindi at the bathroom sink rubbing a thick layer of hand soap over the surface.

I calmly wash her up and send her to clean something else.

We make cookies in attempt to funnel the creative energy into something productive.

____________________

1:30pm

No nap. I attempted to put them down but no one ever slept. Baby included.

_____________________

9:00 pm

The kids are in bed. We hear a door slam and little foot steps.

Luke yells out, "Get in bed!"

Little foot steps and door slam.

After a while I get up to get a drink and think... "I should go check on the kids". So I open the door and there is Kindi with a line of stuffed animals. They are covered with hand soap because "they were dirty" and have diapers on. We just took them away and put here back on bed.

Yes, it is officially done. We've filled out all the paperwork and took it in and now my little girl will be off to school in January! I don't know who's more excited me or her!

She is a busy little bee these days... she makes lists for everything! There are lists all over the house with all the kids' names (or at least they are suppose to be the kids' names). It is too cute! She's so precious.

Just in case you need an interpreter... the list goes as follows:
Levi
Xavier
Joy
Kindi

We've been working on Joy's name for a little while but she recently lost interest. So I thought I'd pick it up again later until.... one day she just wrote it! Unassisted and very proud she showed off her squiggly penmanship off for all to see! YEAH FOR JOY!

Joy's First Day of Preschool!

We bought the lunch box, the sun safe hat, the "special" hair ties and waited.

We woke up a few days later... and it began. Check list:

- Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
CHECK!

* Eyes already begin to water as it hits... I'm making a school lunch right now

- Yogurt
CHECK!

- Trail Mix
CHECK!

- Water Bottle
CHECK!

- 2 Pieces of Fruit
CHECK!

- Lay out School Clothes
CHECK!

NOW... Wake up the munchkin.

"Wake up sweetie."
"I too tired."

"But today you go to your special school!"
"Kindi go too?"

"Not this time. This is Joy's school."
"OK! I awake now."

After getting dressed, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, giving all the other kids hugs... we take the opportunity to take a picture of my baby who is fast growing up. I think I CANNOT imagine what its going to be like when my last baby heads off to school but I take in the now moment and head off to school.

In the car we talk about all the exciting things she'll probably do at school and that she can come home and tell Kindi all about it.

We get there and l was prepared for tears and an "I don't want you to go mom!" but instead we got a, "OK mom. You can go now."

I was slightly crushed but happy to see my little girl be so confident and ready. She had a tremendous day at school... and so begins the "SCHOOL YEARS" for us. I can't believe how quickly time flies!

Grandma comes to visit Xavier!!

We were just home from the hospital a few days and was ready to do a video call with the family to give them their first glimpse of Xavier.

We saw everyone but my mom there. I asked my sister where when was and she said that my mom was out with her mom. I had figured she was just a little emotional for missing the birth of my last baby and needed to take a bit of time out. So I would try back a few hours later.

Second time calling and my sister said she was still gone. I just said for her to have mom call me when she gets home or first thing in the morning so I can giver her love. My sister said ok and I got on with my day.

In the afternoon the midwife came to do a house-call. Just to make sure Xavier was doing well. We were chatting in the bedroom as he was getting weighed and measured. Luke kept popping in trying to hurry us to finish. I though he was being REALLY RUDE! I mean we had to take care of this stuff.

I had heard people in the living room but I was not too surprised as I knew my brother and sister-in-law were coming for a visit. So... we finished up the check up and before I could walk into the living room Luke stopped me. He kept bugging me about my clothes. I was wearing pajamas (I mean, I just had a baby) and wearing anything but pajamas seemed like too much effort as my world had turned upside down for the fourth time. He kept insisting that I change because people want to see a "fresher Ang"... so I changed.

As I was walking out I started apologizing for keeping everyone waiting and then I did a double take...

MY MOM WAS SITTING AT THE KITCHEN TABLE!!! RIGHT THERE! RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

All I remember is that my jaw dropped and my knees literally buckled. Tears were flowing immediately and we hugged A LOT!

I couldn't believe that she surprised me... no one gets ANYTHING past me. I pick it up straight away. I guess child birth kind of threw me off the track.

All I said was, "If I knew you were coming I would have held him in".

So awesome and one of the biggest highlights of my life! Little Xavier (or 'X-man' as we call him) loves his grandma and has eyes only for her right now.

I'm so glad she's here!!!

Levi's 1st Birthday!

My baby boy turns 1 before my new baby boy is born. It was a toss up but the boys will have separate birthdays.

Levi is my little monkey so we decided to give him a Curious George party. He loves that movie anyway. So the girls and I spent the afternoons painting A LOT. We made great decorations and had a ton of fun at the party. Unfortunately there were more adults than children but we had fun regardless. He was so cute showing off his moves as he had only started walking shortly before. Yeah for "Beebi"!!

Therefore, my dear brothers,
stand firm. Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully
to the work of the Lord,
because you know that
your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Why do you need partners? Why do you believe to raise support this way? Why should I become a partner?

Our Heart is Friends

Out with the Old Mindset and in with the New!

From day one we learn how to be independent. You are encouraged to walk, eat, get dressed all on your own... and although we need to do things on our own to help enable us to make decisions, learn responsibility and gain a sense of freedom, as the saying goes, “No man is an island”.

It has been a very thought (and heart) provoking  journey to challenge society’s ideas of financial independence. We have willingly entered a career in which we choose not to get paid... where is the sense in that? However, as we marked our 10 years in full-time missions, we have only begun to scratch the surface of what we have signed up for, and we’ll tell you - It is FAR BETTER than we could have imagined or even hoped for!
___________________________________________________________________________
" Ironically, the more we purport to be strong without the help of others,
the more we are weakened. At the same time, confessing our weakness and admitting
our need for God and others strengthen us."
-   Friend Raising, Betty Barnett
___________________________________________________________________________

One of my favorite books on the subject of finances is Friend Raising by Betty Barnett . She articulates so well what we have been struggling to communicate for years. The opening line says, ‘Many Christians considering full-time missionary service are more fearful of support raising than of being martyred on the mission field’. That is 100% me. In fact, that is almost everyone I know who is in full-time missions. So with that in mind, I wanted to learn why this is... because this shouldn’t be the case. And if I could understand why, then maybe it wouldn’t be so hard... but boy, was I wrong!

Like I said, independence is something you are learning your whole life and now learning to embrace the opposite is something that has begun to stretch me to a new found freedom.

Why can’t I be independent?

Bottom line... people need people. How would life be if it was you and ONLY you? Adam needed Eve because the wildlife just wasn’t cutting it.

Some people need people more than others. I LOVE people! I NEED people! In fact, my Kindergarten report card commented that I was the “social butterfly” of the class. In fact, I often comment that I have an illness called the ‘I don’t want to miss out on anything’ disease. People bring me life and I am refreshed by spending time with LOTS of people. Luke is more the one-on-one kind of guy. He is refreshed by the building of deep friendships. Either way, we need people and it brings life!

I have been introduced to an unfamiliar term but it is something that I have believed in and have been practicing for years. It is INTERDEPENDENCE.

Defined, Interdependence is ‘a dynamic of being mutually responsible to and sharing a common set of principles with others. Interdependence recognizes the truth in each position and weaves them together. It can also be defined as the interconnectedness and the reliance on one another.’

As explained, it's about relationship. It's about unity. It’s about friends. It's sharing the values of God’s work and working together to see it happen.

God’s Work is Everyone’s Calling.

We are all called to do God’s work, whether in our home town or in a foreign land, and how much more effective would we be if we were united in purpose  with our friends... The relationship is already there! Our friends are the closest thing to our heart, so as we invest into one another emotionally and spiritually, it would be a wonderful privilege for us to work with you “professionally”.
 ___________________________________________________________________________
I sensed the Lord saying, 'The tree's strength depends on it's broad
network of roots. Your strength depends on the wide
network of interdependant people with you in My service.
Therefore, in battle you are able to withstand the firey darts of the enemy.'"
-   Friend Raising, Betty Barnett
___________________________________________________________________________

Let me explain to you that inviting you to partner with us is much more than money. It is us asking you to DEEPEN OUR FRIENDSHIP! It is the love and excitement of the relationship we have with you that compels us to invite you to work together with us to see God’s heart outworked around the world.

Our prayer is that you would be encouraged to strengthen our natural camaraderie and kindred-spirit. That we can influence the nations together as we pour into one another. That we can be united in Spirit and in Action!

______________________________________________________________

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work...
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9,12

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a volunteer movement of thousands of Christians in hundreds of locations who are seeking to make Christ known in word and deed. Most people in YWAM need financial partners in order to do their ministry. They depend on God to motivate people to contribute their financial resources. Any amount is greatly appreciated.

No one in Youth With A Mission receives a salary. Each person, from the newest volunteer to the International President, is responsible for his or her own needs. Some staff receive regular support from a home church, friends or family, while others rely on provision from different sources.

YWAM has purposely chosen to emphasize personal support raising as the primary means of funding for our staff. Although we recognize there are many other valid ways of financing ministry, the way we have chosen is based on Biblical principles and has enabled us to include tens of thousands of people each year from over 130 countries in the task of fulfilling the Great Commission...

...We believe, and have experienced over and over, that personal support raising provides many benefits to our staff. It often creates a close bond between the financial partner and the worker on the field, it helps our workers experience God's faithfulness in tangible ways, and when combined with a commitment to pray as well as to give, it provides powerful teamwork that results in encouragement for our workers and supernatural blessing on our ministries.

The YWAM ministry in San Jose is called Ember Ink. The mission of YWAM Ember Ink is to provide opportunities to connect people with the love of Jesus, respond to him and see positive transformation in individuals, communities and culture. (Mark 16:15, Matthew 28:19)

Reaching out to our local community as well as abroad, we are creating projects and programs to show the love of Jesus and make long lasting relationships with those in need. Showing mercy and compassion to the broken and hurting. Helping them find healing and freedom. (Matthew 5:14, Micah 6:8)
